Jesus the miracle maker - 7 February 2021

Here are some ideas that you could do with your children at home, that link the children’s everyday experiences to the Bible. As you play or create, you can talk about what happened in the story of Jesus turning water into wine.

You could watch this video of the story:

TEACHING POINT

Jesus turns the ordinary, extraordinary

PROGRAMME

Let’s Pretend

feb 7 pic 1.jpg

Set up a banquet. Have a meal, share some food. What would you have talked about at a wedding banquet? How would everyone be feeling? What would you hear? Smell? Talk about weddings and what they are like.

Game

For younger children- water play. Use some sponges, pour, cups, spoons. Could have different colours and mix the colours together.

For older children- how many squirts of a sponge will it take to fill an empty container? Could predict first and keep a tally. Could use red food colouring to make it more like the miracle of Jesus turning water into wine. And talk through the story as you do.

Craft

feb 7 pic 3.jpg

Use food colouring to colour some water (make the colour quite strong). Give each child two sheets of absorbent kitchen roll (one on top of the other to make a double layer), then let them use droppers to make some 'wine and water' artwork!

Prayer

This story is all about blessing people. Jesus wanted to bless this couple who were getting married and their guests at the wedding.

How can we show love this week to others? How can we bless someone this week? A phone call? A card in the post? A gift? Who are you going to pray God’s blessings on this week?

MESSAGE AND PRAYER TIME

Jesus turns the ordinary, extraordinary

Up to 3 years old (Fruitshoots)

Thank you that you want to give us good gifts. That you love to bless us and be kind to us just like Jesus was kind to the friends and family when he turned water into wine at the wedding. Help us to be kind to our friends and family.

From 3 years to Reception age (Acorns)

Thank you that you want to give us good gifts. That you love to bless us and be kind to us just like Jesus was kind to the friends and family when he turned water into wine at the wedding. Thank you that you can do miracles and do extraordinary things. Help us to be kind to our friends and family and help us to ask you when we need help because you can do extraordinary things.

School years 1-6 (Hive)

A thought: Have you ever been to a wedding? What was it like?

Jesus did an amazing and kind miracle. When the wedding party ran out of wine, Jesus turned water into wine. He could have left it because everyone had already been at the wedding a while but he didn’t want them to go without. So he turned water into wine. Jesus did an extraordinary thing! He didn’t just give them any old wine, he gave them the best. What could you ask Jesus for this week? Remember nothing is too small for Jesus! He wants to give us immeasurably more. He wants to give us the best!

Pray!
