Exodus 14-24 - Moses - 26 July 2020

Here are some ideas that you could do with your children at home, that link the children’s everyday experiences to the Bible. As you play or create, you can talk about what happened in the story of Moses and the Israelites.

You could watch this video of the story:

TEACHING POINT

God will give us what we need.

PROGRAMME

Let’s Pretend

Sand play- get the children to play in the sand, build castles, make tracks with cars, hide items in the sand etc. As you play, you can talk to them about how dry the sand is, what it would have been like for the Israelites to be living in the desert, you could even talk to them about sandy sandwiches and how sand blows everywhere.

Game of no rules

  • This game is easy to play. You, the leader, are the only one who gets to decide about points, who’s in or out, and essentially anything going on in the game.

  • Simply tell your group you are all going to play a new game. Then throw a bunch of soft balls or other toys in the middle of the room. Next, say: “Ready, set, go!”

  • You will get lots of blank looks. That’s exactly what should happen.

  • As kids start moving, picking up toys, or even asking questions, randomly shout out consequences or award points. “You asked a question! 5 points!” “You didn’t say anything. 10 points!” “Picking up toys—Negative 500 points.” “No movement within time limit. You’re frozen forever!” “You’re wearing red! Sit out for 2 minutes!”

  • Be as random as you want to be. No doubt you will start hearing shouts of “That’s not fair!” and “Hey! You didn’t tell us that was a rule!” or even “AAAAhhh! Stop the madness!”

  • Talk to the children about how rules are important and we have them.

MESSAGE AND PRAYER TIME

God will give us what we need!

Up to 3 years old (Fruitshoots)

Thank you that you look after us and will give us what we need. Thank you that you give us (name some things that God provides for us… food, bed at night, clothes, people to look after us etc)

From 3 years to Reception age (Acorns)

Thank you that you look after us and give us what we need! Think of a few things that you can thank God for. Is there anything you need at the moment, ask God. In the Bible, He tells us that He gives the birds everything they need and we are more valuable/important than they are.

School years 1-6 (Hive)

A question: What do you need? Do you believe God can give it to you? Ask him!

Pray!
