Exodus 4-14 - Moses - 19 July 2020

Here are some ideas that you could do with your children at home, that link the children’s everyday experiences to the Bible. As you play or create, you can talk about what happened in the story of Moses and the Israelites.

TEACHING POINT

God will help us.

PROGRAMME

Let’s Pretend

Water play… can you part the water like God did when he rescued the Israelites from Egypt? What do you think the Israelites saw when the walked through the water? Fish? Crabs? An Octopus?

Sensory bag

Add cheap hair gel and blue food colouring. Or you could try paint or jelly or anything else that can move in a ziplock freezer bag.

Blindfold Drawings game

One of the plagues sent was darkness…

This is a simple pen and paper game that creates some “interesting” artworks. To play this blindfold game, you will need:

  • A blindfold for each participant

  • A pencil and piece of paper for each participant

How to play Blindfold Drawings:

  1. Give all of the children a blindfold, pencil, and piece of paper

  2. Tell them to draw an object of some kind. It could be an elephant, horse, dog, pony or whatever else you can think of.

  3. Once everyone has had 10 minutes to draw, compare the illustrations they have created!

Make a paper plate frog or a peg locust… be careful they don’t take over…

MESSAGE AND PRAYER TIME

Sometimes things don’t look so good and it’s not going the way we planned. Moses made a big mistake and ran away, the Israelites were slaves, Pharaoh didn’t listen to God even though God sent warnings, but God always has a plan and He tells us that He will always look after us. He looked after Moses and the Israelites and He will take care of us.

Up to 3 years old (Fruitshoots)

Thank you God that you will always help us if we ask you! Thank you for the other people in our lives who help us, mummies, daddies, doctors, police, teachers.

From 3 years to Reception age (Acorns)

Thank you God that you will always help us if we ask you! Thank you that no matter how we are feeling and if things look like they aren’t going well, you still have a plan that is good. Help us to trust you.

School years 1-6 (Hive)

A question: Have you ever had to go somewhere new? How did it make you feel? The Israelites were nervous about setting off on their journey to the land that God had promised them but Moses had such faith and knew that God would help them and keep them all safe.

Pray!
