Joshua 5 - Joshua and the walls of Jericho

Here are some ideas that you could do with your children at home, that link the children’s everyday experiences to the Bible. As you play or create, you can talk about what happened in the story of Joshua and the walls of Jericho.

You could watch this video of the story:

TEACHING POINT

God keeps his promises.

PROGRAMME

Let’s Pretend

Build your own city of Jericho either out of bricks and small lego/play people or go big and create your own city to walk around, blowing your trumpets and making a loud sound to make the walls fall.

Messy Snack

Make your own walls of Jericho snack… what could you use in your cupboards to build a city snack? Make sure you ask permission to use the cupboard supplies first though 😊

MESSAGE AND PRAYER TIME

God keeps his promises!

Up to 3 years old (Fruitshoots)

Thank you God that you keep your promises. Thank you that your promises tell us that you will look after us, keep us safe, always love us and help us when we ask you.

From 3 years to Reception age (Acorns)

Thank you God that you keep your promises. Thank you that your promises tell us that you will look after us, keep us safe, always love us and help us when we ask you. Thank you that you took care of Rahab, you looked Joshua and showed him the way and thank you that you said that you would give the Israelites a promised land and you did. You always keep your promises!

School years 1-6 (Hive)

A question: What promises have you kept? What promises have other people shown you? God always keeps His promises but it’s not always in the time that we’d like. The Israelites had many leaders whilst they were waiting for God to give them their promised land and whilst waiting, they wandered in the desert for 40 years. But God did keep his promise and Joshua did lead the Israelites into the promised land. God always keeps his promises but we might have to be patient sometimes!

Pray!
