An angel visits Mary (Luke 1) - 15 November 2020

Here are some ideas that you could do with your children at home, that link the children’s everyday experiences to the Bible. As you play or create, you can talk about what happened in the story of Christmas, when an angel appeared to Mary.

You could watch this video of the story:

TEACHING POINT

We can trust God, He has great plans for us!

PROGRAMME

Let’s Pretend

nov 15 pic 1.png

Make a playdough scene- act out the story of angel appearing to Mary and perhaps you can carry on retelling the story of Jesus being born with your playdough characters (look up making your own playdough if needed).

If you are feeling creative, you could turn it into a stop motion animation.

Trust Bible Walk

Source

It can be hard to put our trust in someone, especially if you don’t know what the outcome will be. Mary trusted God, even though she did not understand everything.

To help demonstrate trust to our girls, we guided them through a path blindfolded. We gave them verbal commands and they carefully followed.

We explained how this demonstration is like us putting our trust in God. We might not know where we are going, but if we listen to his guidance, he will lead us down the right path.

Angel craft

Create your own angel craft- try this paper plate one or cut out an angel outline and make it glittery!

Game - Pin the halo on the angel

This can be played like PIN THE TAIL ON THE DONKEY but children will take turns pinning the halo on an angel.

MESSAGE AND PRAYER TIME

We can trust God, He has great plans for us!

Up to 3 years old (Fruitshoots) + from 3 years to Reception age (Acorns)

Jesus is God’s son, just like we are our mummy’s and daddy’s sons and daughters. God is Jesus’ daddy. He also had a mummy Mary and daddy Joseph. We have a mummy and daddy and we also have God, who is our daddy in heaven, and he loves us very much and will look after us just like he looked after Mary. Mary listened to God and chose to do what He asked her to do. If our mummies and daddies or God asks us to do something, we should listen to them to. Thank you, God, that you can help us to do good listening.

School years 1-6 (Hive)

A thought: Did you know that people thought that Mary was between 12 and 15 years old?

That is not much older than some of you!! Imagine seeing an angel. How would that make you feel? What would you do if an angel suddenly appeared in your room? What do you think Mary was thinking? And then to hear the news that she was going to have a baby and not just any baby, she was going to have Jesus. Mind blowing! She was one brave girl who trusted God immensely. She knew that He had the best plan for her life and all she needed to do was to trust Him and everything else would be OK.

Pray!
