How Can I Get Involved?
MAKE SEVERN YOUR OWN...
If you've decided that Severn Vineyard is the right church for you then the best way to feel like it's yours is to get involved. There’s nothing like feeling you’re part of a church than having some ownership of it. Doing stuff alongside other people is simply the most amazing way to quickly build meaningful relationships. Here are a few ideas on making the Severn your church:
Come over for dinner
If you’re new to the church, then the first thing we’d love to do is have you over for dinner. We hold regular Newcomers’ Dinners and Lunches at Owen and Claire’s home – a great chance to hear more about Severn’s story meet some of our small group leaders. If you’d like to come, just fill in a Newcomers’ Dinner slip. You’ll find them on the information desk at the back of church on a Sunday night.
Make the Sunday Gatherings a regular date in your diary
Make the Sunday Gathering a regular date in your diary. It’s the largest gathering of our weekly events and as such is an inspiring experience as we encounter God together. It’s the place where weekly you can listen to a variety of speakers who help us grow in our knowledge and experience of God.
Join a Small Group
We’d also encourage you to try out one or more of our Small Groups. Even as a relatively small church, it’s hard to get to know many people if you only ever come on a Sunday night, so Small Groups offer a chance to meet mid-week and share life together in people’s homes across the city. You can find a list of our current small groups here. Feel free to try as many as you like until you find one that suits you.
Invest some of your money
Invest financially in the church and you’ll be enabling much, much more than the Sunday night meetings. All the income received by Severn is spent on fulfilling the charitable purposes of Severn, and this is monitored by the Trustees of Severn Vineyard who publish the accounts annually.
If you bank online you can set up a standing order to Severn Vineyard (sort code 201342, account number 23533905, Barclays Bank), or you can complete a Banker's Order form (available from the Sunday Evening Information desk) and send it to the Severn Office who will send it on to your bank or building society. You can also put cheques (payable to Severn Vineyard) and cash into the offering basket at the Sunday Evening Gathering.
Whichever method you use, don't forget to sign and complete the Giving Financially flyer (making sure to tick the Gift Aid box) if you are a UK taxpayer, as this entitles Severn to claim the tax back that you have paid on your donation - that's currently equivalent to 28 pence in every pound, so your money will go even further!
Invest some of your time
Another fantastic way to feel part of everything that goes on at Severn is to join a team. From serving the coffee to setting out the chairs, there are a lot of things that happen each week to make Sunday nights happen; then throughout the week you can volunteer to help with the Soup Run, serving in the local Prison, helping the children do church and helping out in the office. There's so much that you can get involved with and we’d love to help you find something that suits you. To find out more, just drop us a line.
One last thing...
If you are wanting to make Severn your church and you have been involved in another church in Bristol, can we encourage you to let the leader of that church know and leave on the best of terms....great :-)
